I’m about to share the best news of all time with you!
Everything was very good
In the beginning, God created the heavens, the earth with everything in it and mankind. He looked over everything He made and said that it was very good. (Genesis 1:31)
God placed Adam and Eve in the garden of Even and He fellowshipped with them. Everything was perfect. He also gave them free will and instructions on how to live.
Genesis 2:15-17 NLT:
“The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.
But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”
Then sin happened
Adam and Eve were tempted and disobeyed God. They ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Of course, that had consequences just as God had warned them. (Genesis 3 gives an account of this.)
That sin separated mankind from God and condemned us to die.💔
But God restored us
The good news is that God loves us so much and didn’t leave us to that fate. He made a remarkable sacrifice to pay the price for our sins and to reconcile us back to Himself.
God took on human flesh and came to earth as a man named Jesus. He died for our sins, was buried and raised back to life by God’s great power to put us right with God. It is the greatest proof of God’s love for us.
Now, everyone who believes in Jesus and what He has done for them receives forgiveness for all their sins and becomes a child of God forever. It’s amazing. Simply by having faith in Jesus, we are free from our debt to sin and receive eternal life with God. We also receive the gift of His Holy Spirit living in us. ❤️
This is the Good News – the Gospel! 🥳
Romans 5:12, 18, 21 NLT:
“When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.
…
Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.
…
So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
2 Corinthians 5:19, 21 NLT:
“For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.
…
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”
John 3:16 NLT:
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT:
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
It’s a gift that we receive only by faith in Jesus! 🥳
Salvation is God’s work from start to finish. We only receive this gift by having faith in the finished work of Christ.
Romans 6:23 NLT:
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”
I’ll conclude with this definition of the Gospel by Pastor Emmanuel Iren:
“The Gospel is that God has fulfilled His plan to accept the death of His Son as the propitiation for the sins of mankind, He has raised Him from the dead, and has ever since bestowed eternal life on everyone who believes in Him.”
We only need to believe in Christ and what He has done to be free from our debt to sin, saved from death and reconciled back to God forever. That’s it! You can read more about salvation being a gift here.
